According to The Dallas Morning News, Rangers OF Josh Hamilton isn't expected to play in this weekend's series with the New York Yankees and probably won't see action during this homestand. Texas hosts Detroit on Tuesday and Wednesday next week, before going on the road on Friday against Seattle. Hamilton played a game of light catch on Wednesday, but still isn't ready to return. He crashed into the outfield wall in Minnesota last Saturday, bruising his ribs, and hasn't played since. "Breathing, rolling over in bed, all the stuff you normally do and take for granted," Hamilton said. "Give it a few more days and, hopefully, it's better." He had X-rays on Friday, which were negative. He's been using a hyperbaric chamber to facilitate healing. Manager Ron Washington wants to make sure Hamilton is healthy if the Rangers reach the playoffs. "Until he feels he can do something, we've got to stay day-to-day," Washington said. "It depends on how he tells us he feels. We certainly don't want to hurt him. We can only go by what he tells us, and he tells us he can't do it right now."

The Philadelphia Daily News reports that Phillies 3B Placido Polanco has been contending with bone chips in his left elbow, but not a broken bone, as had been previously reported. Polanco said he was misquoted by the Associated Press.

The Twins activated infielder Nick Punto from the 15-day disabled list on Friday. Punto, who has been dealing with a strained left hamstring, was not in the Twins' starting lineup for Friday's game at Cleveland. The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that manager Ron Gardenhire has doubts as to whether Punto is completely healthy yet.

The Brewers recalled SP Mark Rogers from Triple-A Nashville on Friday. He was already with the team, but had not been officially recalled. Rogers posted a 3.65 ERA in 25 minor-league starts this year, all but one of which was with Double-A Huntsville.

Giants cornerback Aaron Ross is starting another season waiting for an injury to heal. Ross has plantar fasciitis, sustained in a preseason game against the Steelers. While coach Tom Coughlin says the four-year veteran is making progress, he refused to say on Friday whether he would be in the lineup in the first regular-season game.

Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee) participated in his third straight full practice Friday and is officially listed as probable for Week 1 at St. Louis. Although he will be playing with a new quarterback -- Derek Anderson -- Fitzgerald totaled 13 catches for 135 yards and two touchdowns in two games against the Rams last season.

Arizona OF Justin Upton (shoulder) was out of the lineup again on Friday as the Diamondbacks took on the Rockies. This was his ninth straight game of not being active. An MRI done on Tuesday showed no serious injury, but he's been suffering from this shoulder strain since 2006. Interim general manager Jerry Dipoto said on Tuesday that Upton is considered day to day.

On Friday, Redskins QB Donovan McNabb was officialy listed as questionable for his Week 1 contest against the Cowboys. However, the veteran signal-caller has stated all week he will play in the game against a Cowboys defense that gave him trouble last season. He led his team to only 30 points against them in three starts, including the playoffs, last year, averaging 227 passing yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.

Seattle OF Franklin Gutierrez was back in the lineup on Friday for the series opener with the Angels. The Mariners held him out of Wednesday's game after he left Tuesday's outing with a case of hyperventilation. Seattle played it safe, giving him two days off -- they didn't play on Thursday -- before putting him back in the lineup.

Royals 1B Billy Butler was in the starting lineup for Friday night's game at the White Sox. He left Tuesday's game at Minnesota with a hand injury and missed the following two games. He is hitting .313 with 11 home runs and 64 RBI.

Patriots WR Julian Edelman (foot) was limited in practice Friday for a second straight session and is listed as questionable for Sunday's Week 1 game against the Bengals. Cincinnati allowed nine touchdowns to opposing wide receivers in 2009 and allowed six wide receivers to gain over 100 yards against them.

Patriots RB Laurence Maroney (thigh) was limited in practice for a second straight workout Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's Week 1 game vs. the Bengals. If he's able to play as expected, it might not be a great matchup for him since Cincinnati was among the best teams at stopping the run in 2009. The Bengals only allowed seven rushing touchdowns to opposing running backs last year and only Jerome Harrison and Jamaal Charles ran for more than 100 yards in a single game.

The Washington Post reports that Nationals RP Doug Slaten will begin a three-game suspension on Friday, and he will miss the team's series against Florida. The suspension was leveled because he hit Marlins 1B Gaby Sanchez in a game on Sept. 1.

Yankees C Jorge Posada remained out of commission Friday with concussion-like symptoms. Francisco Cervelli took his place once again. "I felt weird," Posada told MLB.com on Friday. "I didn't sleep a whole lot on Tuesday night for the Wednesday day game. Other than that, I didn't experience anything different than a normal headache." He said he felt fine and wanted to start Friday, but manager Joe Girardi decided to be cautious with his veteran catcher. "He's available for us as a pinch-hitter," Girardi said. "Our fear is if he takes another foul tip. You've seen what has happened to some of these guys who have recently gotten concussions, how long it has taken to come back."
